J. D. Women’s College in Imparting Women’s Education
J. D. Women's College is a Constituent unit of Patliputra University, Patna. It was established in the year 1971 to foster the cause of education for women in the state of Bihar. The college possesses a campus of 2.41 acres with strength of more than 6,000 students and 60 core faculty members along with 50 visiting/guest faculty members.
This institution is a multi-faculty college, imparting teaching up to Degree Honours stage (Self-Financing) in Commerce and Post-Graduation stage in Science & Arts. Under vocational education programme of the Govt. of India, the College introduced the teaching of Vocational Courses (BCA) at Degree Honours stage in the year 1997, BBM at Degree Honours stage in the year 2012, B. Com. Degree Honours stage in 2022 and Post-Graduate stage AICTE approved Professional courses MBA & MCA in the year 2002. Adoption of community college concept is another milestone in the history of the college.
As an institution of learning it has a commanding presence both in the University as well as in the capital of the state. The college, while maintaining its exemplary record in University examinations, has also emerged as a serious contender in inter University competitions winning large number of prizes.
Objective:
Our primary objective is to impart higher education to girls. At the same time, we strive to provide the students an opportunity for self-expression, innovation, initiative and wide exposure to facilitate their all-round development. While fostering a stimulating academic environment, the college attempts at instilling in the student values and attitudes which recognise the human imperatives of a strife free community.

Methods of Instructions:
Besides traditional classroom lectures; the commerce department imparts teaching through Smart Classes using audio-visual aids, Project Training etc.

Admission Procedure:
This Prospectus covers admissions to the 4-years full-time B. Com. self-financing Course offered at the J. D. Women's College, Patna. The new session of the course will commence in July. Notification for admission is published on the Patliputra University, Patna website: https://admission.ppuponline.in/
Reservation Policy:
Reservation policy, as notified by the Bihar Government, will be strictly followed in the admission.
Anti-Ragging Declaration:
Students will have to sign Anti-Ragging undertaking in the prescribed format at the time of admission. The undertaking must be duly signed by the concerned student as well as her parent.
Registration:
The admitted students (except those who are already registered with Patliputra University) will have to submit Migration Certificate from their previous university along with requisite fee for university registration. Without registration, they won’t be allowed to appear in the university exam.
Sent-up Rules:
75% attendance is mandatory. No student will be permitted to appear in the University examination unless she fulfils the condition of 75% attendance in each paper, Seminars, Case studies and Special Lectures.
Examinations:
Student will have to appear in the University Examination at the end of each semester. The examination will be conducted by Patliputra University, Patna.
Award of Degree:
On successful completion of the course, appropriate degree will be awarded by the Patliputra University, Patna.
Dress Code:
It is mandatory for B. Com. students. The prescribed uniform is –
Black Colour Full Paint & Sky Blue Colour Shirt along with Black colour Scarf
And
Black colour Blazer for winter days
Bachelor of Commerce

Department of Commerce of the college provides Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com.) Programme only.

B. Com. degree-holders are in a better position than simple commerce graduates to take up and be accomplished at entry-level jobs like:
Future Possibilities: B.Com. graduates can opt for an MBA or an M.Com. or an M.Com. (Professional). Other professional post-graduate courses open to them are: CA, CS, CFA, etc. Studying for a B.Com. (Professional) Degree is a great way of gaining a deeper understanding of business issues and of sharpening managerial skills.

Eligibility Criterion for Admission to B. Com. :
For admission to B. Com. (Hons.) programme a candidate must have passed Intermediate/Senior Secondary Examination of the 10+2 pattern from a recognized board of education or an equivalent examination recognized as equivalent there to by university with at least 45% marks in aggregate of those belonging to general category an 40% marks in cast of candidate belonging to SC/ST category.
Course Plan for B. Com. Programme:
- The four years B. Com. Degree programme shall be divided into six semesters each of six month duration. The academic session generally starts by the end of July or the beginning of August every year.
Attendance Policy:
No student will be permitted to appear at any semester examination unless she fulfils the condition of 75% attendance, as per existing university rules.
Conduct of examination:
The semester examinations will be conducted by the Patliputra University, Patna; which shall also finalise the date of examination, centre for examinations and necessary fee for its conduct.
